The Massacre of Glencoe

Among the people in Scotland and the MacDonald's (Clan Donald), throughout the world,
Feb. 13th, each year, marks the Memorial for those lives lost in the Massacre of Glencoe 1692.

Last year, I was in Glencoe, Scotland. It was an honour to be present at the proceedings, and to be there, amongst Clan members from America, Scotland, and elsewhere.
This year, I will head out tomorrow for Hillsboro, Oregon, for the service there.
We, of Clan Donald also use this day to remember, all those souls that passed, this last year.

Here's my poem to mark this day:

These faces here...I know.
I've seen them shine, down through the history of our Clan.
Bold and stern, or bright with laughter;
depending on the hand,
dealt to them by man.

Still...we are here.
And...we will not forget
those things and souls that have come before.

The sacrifice and endurance,
returning these memories,...forever to us,
like waves,....at our hearts' shore.

Clan Donald lives on.
And marks it's time,
by how,..we walk..this path..once more.

Hello, I just found your site and wondering about the Memorial for the Glencoe Massacre in Hillsboro. Where can I find out info on that so we don't miss it next year?

    Thanks, Nissa Howard

    Nissa,

The Memorial is on the weekend closest to Feb.13th each year.

The Clan Donald USA Pacific Northwest Chapter should be able to tell you the specific date each year. They are the ones that organize the event.
The event is held at the Scottish Rites Church off of Glencoe Road, turn left on the old church road (I think that's what it's called)

The Clan Donald has a website so you can make contact there and find out all the details for next year's gathering.
    All the Best,
    The Bard
