Beltane Night

Never go out on Beltane Night to cross the moors alone.
The Faeryfolk come out at dark to dance 'round the Rowan.

Stay inside, lock the doors, and sit down by the fire;
Leave the Wee Folk to theirs ways and their own desire.

When seasons change and Beltane comes, then moves the Faery Host
from Winter's Quarters cross the moors to their fresh Springtime Post.

If ever a woman, man or child should chance to catch a glimpse,
a curse will fall upon their heads, from these mischievous imps.

Some lose their sight, some lose their hair, a strong man lost his mind;
a woman once went barren, one lad we never could find.

So never go out on Beltane Night to cross the moors alone..
you may just, see a Faery, and be, ... the last you've ever done.

So listen to your Nana ...granddaughter and grandson ...
And never go out on Beltane Night to cross the moors alone.

Wonders never cease

Well Folk...
It seems that it was actually hotter here at the beach than most places inland yesterday. But what a beautiful day here anyway.

It's cooled down now and we are ready to give you in-landers some relief to the heat.
Cool breezes are now blowing and they say 68 degrees will be the high. That's a 30 degree drop from yesterday. Brrrr...I guess that will feel like an mini-ice age now.

Hope to see you in the shop...
I've piled in 3 boxes of new stock from the Celtic Nations since Thurs. And more is on the way.

Hot...Hot...Hot...!!!

It's a hot one today but the ocean breezes here in Seaside are not letting us down.

For those of you steamin' inland, it's time to head west and spend the day at the beach. Come on... you know you want to.

The pollen is a bit much though, with windows open the surfaces of my house and shop are covered with a yellow dust.

Nothing this year will surprises me...after 3 weeks ago, when I was shifting the snow off the windshield and pollen was in the mix.
Giving a brand new meaning to the term "Yellow Snow".

Seaside is waiting for you! So come on now where the breezes are blowing off the cool waters of the Pacific. See you in the shop.

Stay Cool,

Comment to the blog

Allison,
how great to hear from you and what a nice comment...
you sound like a true Scot.

The Thistle Poem in my window I wrote quite some time ago.
It's about how the Thistle became the Badge of Scotland. It actually kept
spinnin' 'Round in me heid whilst I was tryin' to nap, so I got up and wrote it down
so I could get the must needed sleep. Years later I found the paper I'd originally wrote it on and it was the instruction sheet for a heating pad. Wha' a laugh.

Looking forward to meeting you in the shop.
It's a hot one today, a bit of a shocker to the system after snow, just 3 weeks ago.

News about Scotland

Scotland has had an ongoing debate and discussion about Independence from England for a long time. Once done behind closed doors, quietly over a pint, or out front at the ceilidh, now in the last few years is taking place in a much more open forum.

For those of you that have interest, there are many avenues on the Internet to follow this discussion and see the process of democracy in motion.

I'll be in the shop again, after my short, but rewarding trip to see the kith and kin.
New stock of jewellry is arriving now and the first will be displayed this weekend.

Hope to see at the beach soon.

And for those of you the drop in here regularly I hope to post more often now.

Scotland's Past and the Present View

Recently when I had a disagreement with someone that has little knowledge of the
Celtic past history, they responded to me in a way I've grown tried of hearing.

In essence the response was:

The thing that brought the Celtic Nations to their demise was the constant "infighting" that they're so well known for.

I replied: You're not going to get hung up on that drivel that the oppressive ranks of invaders tried to use to further the misunderstanding of what was really going on during those periods of history, ... are you?

1. The Celtic Nations never did come to a 'demise', they are still up and running now,
or there would be no Ireland or Wales or Scotland today. And they've survived all thrown at them for many thousands of years.

2. The Celts believed that their leaders were "the first among equals", the ranks of the clans were involved in the choice of leadership, if those leaders moved against their own, they would cast them out and choose another to lead them. These ideals are where your modern day democracy grew from.

3. The Celtic Clans believed that each of their land holding and people were "a realm" onto itself. Most of the disputes down through the years were one clan moving against another because of disagreements, border disputes, treachery of one sort or another, etc, .... this is not infighting.

4. "Infighting" would be disputes happening constantly within the one clan against others of their same kith and kin.

5. These clansmen and women, of different clans commonly would band together with each other to fight common foes.

6. Don't use historical events from a realm you know little about, to justify your actions in the modern world, and present circumstance.

And that's how I feel about that.
